Lochgair Hall - 'Chewing the cud'
Funding from Nadara A'Chruach Wind Farm Community Fund has supported the costs of refurbishing a community hall which has increased social events in the area.
The Lochgair Association have received a series of awards from the Nadara A’Chruach Wind Farm Community Fund towards the costs of refurbishing its community hall following a successful asset transfer of the property from Church of Scotland. The first grant of £24,800 awarded in 2022 supported major repairs to re-establish the structural integrity of the building and the complete gutting and refitting of the interior, including creating a new kitchen, new toilets including a disabled toilet as well as new windows and doors, floors and refurbishment of the main body of the hall. A second grant of £24,771 in 2023 covered repairs to the roof and the installation of wrap around decking and disabled access.
Since the addition of the wraparound balcony there have been a number of social events which have been able to capitalise on this new outdoor space for informal get togethers. For older residents in the village, many of whom are facing personal and health challenges, this is valued because it provides a safe way to share experiences and memories. These gentlemen met at one of these events and shared early memories of life in Glasgow.
