Keeping Larbert & Stenhousemuir beautiful
Keeping Larbert and Stenhousemuir Beautiful (KLSB) has seen a 200% growth in volunteers eager to improve community greenspaces, thanks in part to a grant from the Todhill Wind Farm (Larbert, Stenhousemuir & Torwood) Community Fund.
KLSB is a relatively new, motivated, and enthusiastic community-led organisation that supports residents to get involved in enhancing their surroundings. KLSB was originally formed to take over the care and management of flower beds in the local area, to organise litter picks and ensure the local area and green spaces were kept clean and tidy.
KLSB was awarded £4,702 from the Todhill Wind Farm (Larbert, Stenhousemuir & Torwood) Community Fund in November 2019 to purchase flowers, tools and equipment, insurance, a standpipe, a greenhouse and supplies to help build a raised vegetable patch.
The grant has helped bring volunteers together from across the community, ranging from age 4 to over 70. Local Scout groups, businesses and residents have all got involved, creating new friendships and generally improving the sense of community spirit. The interaction between older and younger volunteers has helped experience, knowledge and skills to be shared between generations, and this is something the KLSB is keen to encourage.
Feedback indicates that social interaction is also helping to combat feelings of isolation and loneliness amongst older people. Volunteers have also spoken about improvements to their health and wellbeing as a result of being outside in the fresh air, and the sense of pride from successful gardening and litter picks.
This project has enhanced the appearance of many of the flowerbeds, greenspaces and memorials in the Larbert & Stenhousemuir areas, and KLSB membership continues to grow.
“The Todhill Wind Farm Fund is a lifeline to many in our community, and we are grateful for its support in Keeping Larbert & Stenhousemuir Beautiful.”
