About this fund
The Cour Community Benefit Fund supports community projects benefitting those living in the three community council areas of East Kintyre, West Kintyre and Tarbert and Skipness. The fund is provided by Cour Wind Farm Ltd, the company which owns and operates the Cour wind farm on the Kintyre peninsula.
An annual payment of £102,500 is available for the operational life of the wind farm which is currently expected to be up to 25 years from when it started operating in 2019.
Purpose of this fund
The Fund provides grants to support activities that benefit the communities of East Kintyre, West Kintyre and Tarbert and Skipness.
Grants may support a wide range of costs, for example, the costs of equipment, staff or sessional workers, consultations, running costs for local groups, maintenance or refurbishment of community facilities, and so on.
Additional criteria
The Fund is devolved to three community Trusts each of which serves one of the three areas noted above. Each Trust may have specific criteria so please check those before applying.
Who can apply?
Community groups and organisations working to benefit people in the area served by each Trust are eligible to apply. They do not need to be a registered charity but the activity or project they are requesting funding for must be for community benefit.
Applications from groups/organisations located out with the area of each Trust may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Such groups must demonstrate a clear benefit from the proposed project for residents within the community and demonstrate demand for the project from that community. We suggest you contact the Trust you want to apply to for a discussion about your proposed application if this is relevant to you.
What can’t be funded?
Do check the website of the Trust you are applying for which will detail what they can’t fund.
How are decisions made?
The decisions are made by the Board of each Trust.
Frequently asked questions
-
Why can’t I apply to Foundation Scotland for a Cour grant?
Foundation Scotland operates as the ‘global administrator’ for this fund. This means we hold the legal agreement with the wind farm owner who pays the community benefit to us each year. We then pass on one third to each Trust to then distribute through their own established grant making processes. The Trusts provide an annual report back to Foundation Scotland each year who then provides an overall single report to the wind farm owner.
How to apply
Foundation Scotland does not take applications for the Cour Fund. Please contact the Trust you wish to apply to:
