Local groups share £9,500 from Nadara Westfield Community Fund

Five community groups in Benarty, a village situated north of Lochgelly in Fife, have received support towards projects spanning youth activities, heritage recording and the upkeep of vital community spaces.

Grants were decided by a panel of local residents, who assessed each application on its merits and potential impact. The funded projects reflect the Nadara Westfield Wind Farm Community Fund's core priorities — enhancing quality of life, fostering inclusion and supporting sustainable communities.

The largest award of £2,250 went to the Friends of Lochore Meadows to deliver a children's cycling project, helping young people build confidence and develop new skills through outdoor learning.

Three further grants of £2,000 each will benefit groups across the area. Friends of Lochgelly High School Pipe Band will use their award to launch free beginner drumming sessions for primary pupils, providing an accessible route into music.

Lochore Miners Charitable Society received funding towards completing essential roof repairs to their community hub, while Lochore Welfare Football Club will upgrade security and access at their facility following a break-in earlier this year. Rounding out the awards, the Benarty Heritage Preservation Group received £1,337 to purchase filming equipment, allowing local history talks to be recorded and shared more widely.

Karen Hunter, a member of the group, said

This award means so much to us and to the young people we work with. Lochore Meadows is a wonderful resource on our doorstep, and these cycling sessions will open it up to children who might not otherwise have had the opportunity. We can't wait to get started and see the difference it makes”.

Committee member Charlotte Howe said the funding would help ensure the area's heritage "is never lost", adding:

"We can reach people far and wide in ways that were simply not possible before."

These projects reflect the important role local organisations play in bringing people together and improving quality of life across Benarty. From preserving heritage to supporting young people and maintaining community spaces, the Fund continues to make a meaningful contribution.
