Local Community Projects receive £52,000 funding boost from Glenkerie Fund
The Nadara Glenkerie Wind Farm Community Fund has celebrated its 10 year anniversary with a stellar last funding round of the 2024.
The Nadara Glenkerie Wind Farm Community Fund aims to support activity which will sustain and develop the life of the community and ensure that the area is an attractive and vibrant place to live, work and visit. The fund began in 2014 and received annual contributions from Ventient Energy until a merger in 2024, after which annual donations have come from Nadara for distribution to these local communities.
Coulter Community Trust SCIO secured the largest portion of funding with a £30,000 award spread over three years. The grant will contribute towards core running costs to ensure Counter Village Hall (photo opposite) has the opportunity to develop and grow under community ownership. The Trust has recently secured a lease agreement with South Lanarkshire Local Authority and this funding will ensure this vital community asset remains accessible to local residents.
Broughton and District Bowling Club (photo below left) received £18,885 to enhance the accessibility of its facilities. The improvements will create a more inclusive space for users and visitors, reflecting the panel's commitment to ensuring community facilities are accessible to everyone. The local tennis club will also benefit from this award as it uses the bowling clubs' access and facilities.
Completing the funding round, Biggar Museum Trust was awarded £3,398 to create six new replica loan boxes (photo below right). These educational resources will provide hands-on learning experiences for schools and community groups, helping to preserve and share local heritage. The panel particularly praised the project's digital aspects and potential for long-term community benefit through the museum’s outreach programme.
The successful awards represent part of a broader funding programme that has awarded £874,000 across the region since the fund commenced in 2014. These investments continue to support rural regeneration and strengthen community cohesion across the Glenkerie fund area.
This latest round of funding reflects the panel's careful consideration of each application's merit, with successful projects showing strong potential for community engagement and sustainable outcomes. The combined investment will help preserve vital community assets, improve accessibility to local facilities, and enhance educational resources across the region. The funding panel maintains a rigorous assessment process focusing on sustainable impact and community benefit. Their strategic approach ensures that funded projects align with local priorities and demonstrate clear, long-term value for residents.
