GIVE400.scot - “If you don’t need it, good deed it”

A new Scottish campaign has launched to increase charitable giving this winter and help tackle fuel poverty and the cost of living crisis.

Charities and respected research groups like the Joseph Rowntree Foundation are warning of potential destitution for many this winter, with families on low incomes already going cold or hungry this year.

Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s Poverty in Scotland 2022 reports:

“Nearly one in five households on low incomes in Scotland have gone hungry and cold this year, even before we enter the winter months. Charities who offer lifeline support are seeing donations drop as their costs soar.”

Carolyn Sawers, Chief Executive of the Corra Foundation said:

"The spark behind the campaign is the Government’s £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme payment that every household is receiving. The campaign asks people fortunate enough to be able to pay their bills without it to consider donating some, all or even more than that payment to help those who need it most.

The Government’s £400 payment offers people the chance to add to their existing charitable giving and help those less fortunate who are being caught in a rising tide of poverty.

The GIVE400.scot campaign encourages people to donate their £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme sum to charities or good causes of their choice, or via Corra Foundation, who will pass it on to grassroots local groups who’ll make sure that funding reaches people in need."

Foundation Scotland is supporting this campaign at a time when thousands of people and families are not able to buy food or heat their homes.
