Five years of grant-giving in Annandale & Nithsdale
The Annandale & Nithsdale Community Benefit Company (ANCBC) CARES Case Study tells the story of the setting up and operation of an innovative community company based in Dumfries & Galloway which is supported by donations from the owner and operator of the Harestanes Wind Farm, ScottishPower Renewables.
Over its first five years, ANCBC has funded an average of 28 projects a year directly through open grants and many more indirectly through local grants to Community Councils. In total between April 2015 and March 2020, it awarded £1,300,927 to 144 projects through its main fund and another £242,482 in local grants. Decisions on how the fund is distributed and which projects it supports are made by ANCBC’s volunteer Board of Directors with grant-making and administrative support by Foundation Scotland.
This case study is part of a series of ‘best practice’ stories put together by our partner Local Energy Scotland as part of the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES).
